Gripping tires
Well I got my turbo neon running tip top and as of now I cant use 1st gear in a race. It all tire spin. Usually second also spins until I bounce the limiter a few times. Then it stops spinning at about 55-60. I always granny shift 3rd so it doesnt spin because that could put me in the ditch. Anyways as you can see I am having lots of traction problems. I have good racing tires on 17"s. I am considering drag radials for a set of 15" alloys. But drag tires are new to me and I would like input. I have a centerforce clutch and stock cv's. I am going to the track next week and want to try for 13's.
Yea but I would like to keep the car street legal so I can drive it to the track. I was thinking drag radials. But what modifications will I need to support the rubber and the size.
mickey thompson does make a street legal slick..what size do you wanna go with?? any rims in mind ?
check this out http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/s...ETStreetRadial
it says the size is 235/60r/15's i would think your just gonna rub unless you were to get some sort of spacer

i ride, first of all, if u go with a "street leagal" drag radial. remember u will be replacing them ALOT, they are a soft compound and will ware very very fast... i am talking like once a season fast depending on how much u drive the car....
next ur rim size, 17s r going to be hard with little side wall on them to get a good tire... honestly that is why i went with a bigger turbo in my car, little lag means just enough time to maybe catch some traction... if u go with drag radials get ready to replace them often....

Oh the rims I planned to use the radials are 15" alloys from the newer neons. I have lots of rims different sizes. Thats not an issue . I plan to drive with them to the track or to a race, then switch them off when I get back.
What tire pressure you got on your street tires? might just have to run lower psi. try 30psi. or even 25 if you have to go lower. I would try that before making the big expence on a set of drag radials.

I have 15" SXT wheels on my 1st gen. I'm gonna try 205/50/15 tires eventually. I had 18's on before and traction was HORRIBLE on those stiff bastards.
I'm shooting for 400 whp on my new build. I can't imagine street tires at that point. "ROLLING STARTS FTW"
im running nitto auto X tires and they grip amazing! ill get the exact name of them and there 14" but you can get them in 15" i launch at 5,000rpm and they grab like a beast but there $250ish each tire..oh and i run 22psi on them ive gone as low as 15 but only twice 22 is just sex
