fuel cutoff
he said once the engine is back in one piece we'll worry about it, and that its not that important, as long as you know what speeds to change the gears, since know matter how powerful or weak your car is the rpm to speed conversion is always the same... ie: 4400rpm in second gear is always 19 mph (i know thats prolly not correct.. just making an example)

stu said that? thats not right....it depends on the particular engine, tire size, gear ratio, the weight of the vehicle..so on...maybe he meant on that vehicle...you shoudl leave first gear at 35mph, 2nd gear at 60 mph...so on...
well i believe thats what he said.. it was also like 1 in the morning, for me, so it was like something for you guys... so i might have mis-understood his explination... but i thought thats what he said... maybe i'll ask him when he writes back.. i sent him a message about a turbo kit on ebay... and to find out whats missing on it.. since its only 500 bucks.... you all can look too... let me know what you think while i wait for his reply...

and when i say what's missing, i mean.. what would have to be done to the engine to make sure a turbo wouldn't shred it to ****. and like i said to stuart.. this is all theory at this point.. not ever sure if i am going to do anything to this car or not.. just looking/wondering/learning
thanks all

well..my you can, in theory, turbo anything without any additional work if you dont mind it blowing up...well before i was born, my dad took a inline 6 cylinder ford falcon and put a small turbo on it, welded directly to the exhaust manifold....no waste gate..no BOV..no boost gauge..
he went out on the street, and jumped on it..and it screamed...he said it was very fast..until it disintegrated the engine..lol
this is your first car..and without mechanical knowledge, or a standby mechanic i wouldnt get into all of this on a 500 dollar car with a bad engine knock and no compression...
in case stu didnt tell you, there is alot of work needed to turbo an NA car and make it a usable daily driver...i wouldnt get into it just yet...

On my 98, I Shift out of 1st at 35, and 2nd at 55. I would not but that turbo for $500, you are gonna need a lot more than that. I would make sure your motor is good before you put a turbo on anyways.
The programmed rev limiter is supposed to be set at 6750 on SOHC's, even the ACR's. Casper, yours wouldn't be the first I'd heard of hitting it at 6500 - although I'd expect it from a '95, but a '98? I know the Mopar computers had different rev limiters depending on their build date. Mine (Mopar) currently has a rev limit of 7400, but the valves start floating around 7200 with the '95 camshaft and stock valvesprings.
