Default Radiator Fans

I've got two fans on my radiator, but only one fan ever runs, from what I've seen. Is the second fan for when the Air-Conditioning is running? Basically my question is if I got rid of the second fan would it do anything negative. The Air-Conditioning is shot anyways, and I'm getting rid of it soon so is there any point to keep the second fan? By the way I drive a '98 SOHC ATX. Thanks.

yeah the second fan is for when you have the a/c on.

oddly tho, you say only 1 fan turns on.. this IS the way its supposed to work, but mine never worked that way. both my fans would come on when i still had both my fans in.

you can run just one fan. i am. i have to, because the dr side fan doesnt fit with my custom intake manifold (couldnt mount the tb because of the fan in the way)
if you remove the drivers side fan.. you will need to take the plug that was plugged into the dr side, and plug it into the passenger side instead... that way that fan will operate just as normal.

Same with me. I'm pretty sure that both my fans run with the ac off

My A/C Compressor went out back in December and I didn't bother to pay beaucoup bucks to get that replaced (I'm just fine with having 55+ mph A/C). So you're saying that I can take out the driver's side fan and have no problems?

yup! thats how im drivin mine around

so long as you swap the wires so that the passenger side fan turns on as if it were the drivers side, yes, you can do it and have no problems (unless it gets like well over 100º where you live hehe)

Really? I thought you had one of those really rare cars that had dual fans without A/C, LOL. All non-A/C cars had a single fan and tiny little rad, the rad on an A/C car runs the full width of the grill.
