You can go to Autozone, Advance, OReilly, Napa, etc. and get them to do an ODB-II read on your PCM. It should come back with the detailed error codes - go ahead and write them down because there are some errors that do not trigger the Check Engine Light (CEL) and are usually minor problems that you can address before they become big ones. This is free and will take about 5 minutes of your time.

Once you write them down, have the guy clear the codes. That is the fastest way to see if you have fixed the problem with #42. It usually takes a few on/off cycles (sometimes up to 50) to clear a fixed problem. The nice thing is that if the error returns, you know where to look next.

The brightness (or dimness) of the battery light is not an issue. It is not a variable warning meaning that brighter does not mean the problem is getting worse. When my sensor broke, it would flicker sometimes, brighten, dim, etc. The Service Manual says that when the battery temp sensor has an abnormal reading, the PCM tells the alternator to reduce the level of charging to reduce the possible battery overheating problem. You are fine, but your alternator is being told not to put out as much juice as it could while the "problem" exists.

Of course, you can also just disconnect the battery for a few minutes and that too will clear the codes that are in the PCM and reset it, but you won't get any other error codes that may be there.
