The diff pin is in the differential. Are we to assume what trans you have (manual or automatic)?. if automatic it's a very easy process, if it's a manual, you best leave that up to the professionals. The #1 cause is abuse. I replace dozens of chrysler transmissions every year from people that get stuck and beat the living $hit out of their vehicle trying to get out. The differential pin holds the spider gears in place. When you spin one wheel you make those gears spin very fast and they actually get hot, gaull and seize onto the pin thus breaking the pin then sending it thru the case. I'm fixing a trans today that cracked the case. I'll be able to TIG weld this one but I've had some where the guy pounded the vehicle so bad, I found one of the spider gears laying on the intake manifold... it shot out that hard
FWIW, why not get a decent limited slip differential. I personally like Quafe and Torson. Then you'll have less chance of blowing your diff ever again

Welding is not a cure for blowing the differential pin through the transmission case.
Differential tabs are a good band aid for the issue, but you should refrain from agressive driving (i.e. burn outs). THese run about $6 a set at the dealer : 05134957AA Neon Diff Brackets

anyone can pull apart a trans. It's actually fixing and improving that sets the mechanics apart from technicians. Being a "fellow tech" it would be easy to R&R the transmission because any quality technician has a natural mechanical aptitude to figure these things out. As for pin retainers, I don't use them. I've had 3 transmissions come thru that had them and still destroyed the case.. including the one where the spider gear was literally sitting on the intake manifold (1994 3.3 minivan that got majorly stuck)

ok yeah i can go though the tranny thats not a problem the neon tranny is rather simple compared to most but in your opinion what do you say i do while the tranny is out to prevent this until around august when i can afford an lsd or you think i should buy that first instead of boost and coilovers? cause about once a month i am making a purchase first is coilovers then energy suspension and boost components then more boost crap and then lsd

If you can't afford to do it right the first time, then don't bother. Infact save your money and invest it instead of feeding your ego on having some boosted, coil over hopped up girls car. Oh and you should know it's really easy and cheap to make your own coil overs. I did cost me a total of $10/shock to convert them over to adustable coil overs. I've done conversions on Shelby chargers, Omni's, Neons, Turbo Minivan, Mustangs, Grand am's and much more. I found a local late model stock car guy and bought out his coil adjusters and springs he didn't want for $5 each. Rated the springs, did some minimal mods to the shocks/struts and installed my coil overs (BTW I only use these in competition... why bother for on the street? it isn't going to get you laid any better with them or not)
