Default MSD?

ok, I'm interested in the coil pack that MSD makes. will it improve anything for me? also, mine seems to be working weird...one of my plugs isn't firing all the time and the post that connects the wire to the pack is a little rusty. it used to be VERY rusty, but I cleaned it and sanded it back to normal. any help? should I go with the MSD one?

Hey, a good new MSD coil, wires, and new spark plugs would be a good thing on your neon. Especially if one is not firing.

The MSD unit is no different than the stock unit. Go with whatever's cheaper, which is probably the MSD unit...

Best of luck!

Actually, if you start to work on your ignition system, all the part you put on will work together to notice a difference. I have the MSD ignition blaster coil and also MSD 8mm wires, I noticed a difference, plus the coil pack is, when I bought it, $75...why not??? Now if you're just looking for a replacement that's another story, but I'd still go with MSD

http://msdignition.com/coil_blaster_12_8229_8239.htm <<< for Mitsubishi but that's what mine looks like and it tells you a little about it

http://msdignition.com/coil_blaster_11_8228.htm <<< just the replacement for Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Plymouth

other than a somewhat smoother idle, the only other thing youd notice is less money in your bank account

of course, that statement is only for mild buildups.. as the stock coil and wires are just fine all the way up to around 250hp or so. after that, the need for a stronger ignition becomes apparent.
but lets say on a daily driver with a few boltons... on the dyno it would produce no gains. it would have a little smoother idle, but that actually will diminish after use and be just as if you ran some stock stuff.. and fuel mileage would stay the same.

but, as mentioned above, if your stock coil is bad/going bad.. the MSD is cheaper than a new stock coil, so might as well just get the MSD.

Different turbo manufacturers assign different number/letter codes to their products. It can get very, very confusing. Mitubishi uses "G" on alot of their products, the most commonly used on Neons are the 16G and the 20G, which could be short for TDO5-16G and TD06-20G (or TD06-20G) respectively, and there are different versions of each depending on what a/r, trim, etc. T3 is one type of turbo made by Garrett, T4 is another, and the T3/T4 is a hybrid that uses parts from both - also fairly common on Neons, also available in a wide range of trims and a/r's.

If you want to know more about turbo systems, buy "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell. When you've read it enough that it is falling apart, you're ready to buy it again and build your own turbo system...
