Default That new brake smell !

Just put rotors and pads on moms car. I cleaned off the calipers and am pretty confident of a safe project. How long 'til the brakes stop smelling and smoking a little ? Right front is a little warm after some hard braking and the left front is a bit warmer (about 15 miles). I'm thinking I should take a second look and make sure the pads are not hanging up anywhere. They don't feel as though they're binding. Mom will be putting on roughly 30 miles this evening.
Thanks for any points I may have over looked.
Marty
P.S. I now know that I need new tie rod ends. Wondered where that noise was coming from.

Your brakes are going to smell for the first couple of miles. You shouldn't brake hard on the new brakes for the first couple of miles, take it easy or you'll over heat them.

Default And if they overheat ?

Am I in the dumper ? New pads, clean the rotors, etc. ? Not sure how they worked for mom, but she made it home.
Thanks,
Marty

Default Thanks jk.....

No problems until yesterday. Not far from home and the left front started dragging something fierce. This is after about 55 miles. This morning it's back to normal. Got the wheel off and the rotor sure looks as though it was nice and hot. Pads look kinda hot and a little crumby on the outer edges.
I'll have my local guy look at 'em when he does the tie rods.
It was so much easier last time. I can't figure out the issue. No leaking around the caliper pistons and the seals don't look all that bad.
Thanks anyway,
Marty
