Default Cylinder head locating dowel?

Hi, I'm doing a head job on a 97 DOHC and one of the locating dowels poking out the top of the motor broke off inside the head. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? Possibly a part number? Or maybe anyone have a solution to this problem?

I think you are going to have to go to your local machine shop and take both the head and block with you, as I would bet that any fix would involve grinding or drilling out the old insert from the block and putting in a new one.

That is of course assuming that it can be done. I have never see one break off before, but the shop will be able to tell you if it can be fixed and how much.

Good luck.

Ended up making one myself out of a 3/8 inch craftsman socket and used a dremel to get the broken one out of the block, lol. I've had to replace them on Chevy motors when they'd come back from the machine shop, they just tapped in. I also did a set on a BMW I did a head job on a couple years back (apparently this is a common problem on Bimmers). Just couldn't find one for the Neon. By the time I was done drilling and cutting the socket, it tapped into the block and you literally could not tell the difference lol
