sounds like a bad pump or bad sensor

The best way to check both is to use an oil pressure guage (OPG) and see what the actual pressure is in the engine. Make sure it is good and warmed up though.

It IS a PITA to get the sensor out and the OPG connected - use the longest hosed OPG you can find - but once you do, you will know for sure.

When my oil light started coming on, it would just barely flicker so dimly, that at first, I thought I had a instrument panel glitch. It only did that after it was fully warmed up and while idling.

It was full of oil and when rev'd up, or going down the road, no problem.

When I put the guage on it, when it was cold, even at idle, it was about 10psi, then when rev'd jump to ~40 or 50psi. After it was warmed up, it would barely read at all when idle and normal when rev'd.

When I finally tore it back apart, sure enough, the main and rod bearings were toast. I hope that isn't your problem.

Get a real oil pressure gauge. The factory does not come on until the oil pressure is at 2 psi. The damage is already being done.

You will need an adapter. The fitting on the sending unit is smaller than the hole in the back of the engine block.
