Default Vehicle Speed Sensor - what is it good for?

And please don't say "Absolutely Nothing! - say it again, Ahhhh...."

Actually I know the VSS affects the speedo and odometer if it does not function properly, but since it is on the same circuit as the Crankshaft Position Sensor and Camshaft position sensor, can it also affect how the car runs? Does the PCM use the VSS signal for anything?

Just curious.

PS: if you don't get it, you are either way too young or don't like 60's music.

In addition to the speedometer, odometer and cruse control, the VSS signal is used by the PCM (According to Haynes) for fuel control and ATX shifting control.

No, it will not affect how well your car runs. But you won't have a speedo and odometer and this is how it was explained to me. the VCC talks to the PCM, for the speed calculations, and then the PCM talks to the speedo and tells it where it needs to go.

According to the wiring diagram the VCC lead is T'd off to both the speedo and the PCM

actualy i just had a problem wit my neon recently. it was jerking the car when i would accelerate and would die when i turned corners. turns out the speed sensor was shot and was drawin power from the cam an crank sensors. so somewhat it affects how it drives but once u get it pulled out it drives perfect. so ya ha

When I had my clutch done by a shop, they forgot to hook up the VSS and my Neon ran perfectly fine, minus the speedo not working.
