Exclamation starter ground?

does the starter have to have that hooked up in order to make the car run? because i have a 96 neon with a brand new starter for a 98 and i already hooked it up and the connectors are different and i cant return the starter some people told me the ground doesn't have to be hooked up for it to work and others said it does so what is the right answer?

It needs the ground in order for it to work... Should use the same type ground. I've put starters out of 97s+ into my 95's and they all worked fine and 95's had their own type of wiring, much like the 96's.

hmmm, thats strange. Do you have the ground that's supposed to go on the 98? if so, you could just cut and splice them together.
