full of crap...
a certain "friend" of mine said that he has a 97 eclipse with a "DOHC 420a engine (norm, right?) but with an EVO VIII block" [&:] does this even make sense?! he was telling me about all these mods he's getting for it and crap and how it's gonna blow the doors off of mine and when i told him that he can't get the 500 HP that he thinks he can out of it without rebuilding the bottom end, he said I'm full of sh*t. [&:] any help? anybody know more about this?

RE: full of crap...
Full of it. He obviously doesn't understand even basic terminology:
- 420a engine = the same block we have with a Mitsubishi designed DOHC head (which only makes 140 HP compared to the Neon DOHC's 150 HP...).
- EVO VIII block = the bottom part of the engine (or engine minus head) from a Lancer EVO, for example.
If he's trying to mate the EVO VIII block with the Mitsu head from a 420a, he'll have a heck of a time since the cylinder bore centers don't line up, much less oil and water passages...
If he's trying to shoehorn the complete EVO VIII engine in there, I'd be curious what he's planning on using for motor mounts, tranny, and engine control (computer) since nothing's going to mix well... Not saying it can't be done, but it's definitely a project for experienced folks.
The EVO VIII already has a sturdy bottom end. I don't think it would have much issue with 500 HP.
Still, full of it.

RE: full of crap...
well 1st gen talons lasers and eclipses i do believe used the 4g63 and 4g63t motors. Most of them if they didnt have those used the 1.8s now the 2nd gens used 420s and 4g63(t), 3rd gens used 4g64 and i believe 2.5 or 3.0s dont quote me on the v6s but I think they used the same as the stratus'. but as of fitting the exhaust manifold of the evo 8 on a 4g63 id imagine its possible but the retard would prolly wonder why the header was so short in the absence of the turbo and downpipe. Unless in fact he has a 4g63t motor.
