Is 3700 rpm to high for a 9 hour road trip.
hmmmm.....around 80mph you should be up into the 3000-3400rpm range....do you have cruise? if so, turn it on and see if the rpm's drop....between 65-90 your rpm's should be at least 2500 and probably can get into the 3500-4000rpm range depending on the type of engine/performance of your car...
it sounds a little high, but honestly at 80mph on a 4cyl its probably right about where it should be...

It's an ACR, so no torque converter lockup (ACR's never came with automatics)... And it has to do with gear ratios, not number of cylinders
If you've kept the tire size stock as well (195/60R14), then 80 mph should be 3699 rpm. I've got the same final drive as you (3.94), but have the taller 5th gear (0.72 vs. your 0.81), so I would be doing 90 at 3700 rpm... which I've done for short stretches. It's not terribly nervewracking, but gas mileage really starts to drop off at that point... It's certainly not going to hurt anything assuming the car is in good repair to begin with.
Best of luck!

ORIGINAL: 95 ACR
Just curious what sustained rpm you would be comfortable with for that amount of time. My ACR buzzes at about 3700 when I am doing about 80mph.
Thanks.

I kinda figured it would be fine, I guess this car really wasn't made for long trips. It's great in the twistys though!
Thanks guys.
