sputtering neon, anyone have an idea?
okay so finally got my car all back up and going after the fuel pump problem, was running pretty good then today it started to sputter on take off a few times and also it would do it when i accel. but not all the time. and the check engine light started flashing so i pulled over shut it off did the 3 on and off thing with key and counted the flashes and i got this...CODE 32** An open or shorted condition detected in the EGR solenoid circuit.Possible air/fuel ratio imbalance not detected during diagnosis. and CODE 43** Multiple cylinder misfire detected.Peak primary circuit current not achieved with the maximum dwell time. anyone have any ideas what could cause those? and what i should check or do to fix it.
EGR as well. Probably stuck open. Coilpacks go on some cars, last forever on others. So start at the plugs and work your way back. Be sure to check the wiring going into the coilpack as well. My clip is broken and works its way loose over time... same code.
If you haven't been told, don't use platinum plugs. Stick with basic (stock) wires and you'll be fine.
Best of luck!

Have Autozone pull the 4-digit codes for free, there are different codes for the electronics portion and the vlave operation portion. If it's the valve, you might be able to take it off, clean it, and be good to go. If it's the electrical side, you'll have to replace the whole thing (they don't sell just the solenoid, etc.), or get an aftermarket PCM that allows you to block it off and forget it...
Platinum plugs and DIS don't mix. Even says so on Bosch's website...

wow thats for that tip, i never heard that before..i'll be sure to get those changed with the reg oem style.how much would i expect to pay if its the electrical part of the egr? and if i just blocked it off with out upgrading the pcm would it hurt it any? or would the check engine light just stay on?
Probably $75 for an EGR assembly brand new. Maybe $25 at a salvage yard. If you block it off with the stock PCM, you'll get a CEL, but it's not going to hurt anything. You can try various resistors to fool the PCM for a little while, but the CEL will eventually come back. Aftermarket PCM's you can find for $150 used and are good for a lot more than EGR delete...
alright thanks for all the tips, i've decided i'm going with the egr block off kit. it seems to be the cheaper better solution to the problem in the long run. and i'll eventually add an aftermarket pcm.
