high idle
well no codes so thats not a problem. There is however a little screw thing that gets stopped by the flap on the butterfly thing. Feels like its a hex head or something. I thought there was no idle adjuster on these cars? canadian if it matters
still the same...no adjuster...i would say have someone look at AIS motor...its connected somewhere somehow to TB... i'll go outside tomorrow and look at my TB to see if theres any screws...
Thats exactly what my question was... i thought there wasnt an adjustment, but what the heck is the screw on the throttle body???? Mine idles really low, about 600rpm when warm. when shes cold she idles around 1000rpm... but there is definatly an adjuster because my friend turned the screw till it wouldnt turn anymore, and hes idling about 1800rpm... dont ask me why he did but he did....
there is an adjustment screw, BUT its supposed to be factory set, and a steel cap pressed into the hole, you shouldnt mess with the screw, if the car wont idle right, something else is wrong - like vaccum leak - sticking IAC. my TPS went bad and caused a 2200 RPM idle, cracked intake on SOHC - theres a number of things to check
Well I just spent the last 2 hours cleaning the throttle body and a little bit of the intake manifold where I could reach. This is how dirty the 200k on the motor got the throttle body:

And after its cleaned and installed again. Ooh shiney!

I used pretty much half a can of carb cleaner cleanin that thing off. It has so much black crap caked on the bottom of the butterfly it was unreal. I used Q-tips and an old toothbrush to clean it all up. I tried to clean asmuch inside the IAC as I could, I sprayed and sprayed, then got the q-tip in there. But no matter how much I cleaned it, there was always a little bit of black on the q-tip when I reached it right in there. But waaaaaay cleaner than it was.
However, I still have a little bit of a problem. First, I broke the vacuum line on the TB (plastic part) when I was removing it (dont ask how, it just happened) so I just replaced the WHOLE thing with a rubber one and modified it a little for the size difference on either end. Fits and works perfectly.
I also ran some seafoam through the motor once I got it back together. That intake was pretty gross looking.
So the problem now is it still idles high, except now sometimes it comes back down. The "high" is still the same as it was last time. But when it gets lower it drops abotu 500rpm (so high is probably about 1500rpm, going by sound (no tach)) and engages the automatic gears much easier. At 1500, it kinda lurches a little. But when it goes low, sometimes it stays low like that for a while, and other times it goes right back up like the computer goes "oh crap, the idle just dropped, better put that back" but sometimes it idles fine. Maybe I didnt get that IAC cleaned out enough, though im not sure how else to do it.
On a side note, will cleaning that **** off the TB either add efficiency or power judging by how dirty it actually was.

But I should also make note that it never actually went to "low" mode before I cleaned it out. Is this a case of insufficient cleaning? Should I just do it again, working more on the IAC this time? Could still be sticking. Also note that when it did go low it wasnt the fans. I was standing there watching the motor
Well maybe the problem is working itself out. it now seems to be more "down" than it is "high" now. Its getting the gears smoother from P or N. I probably cleaned it enough to help and now its breaking free. Though it still has gone up a few times it usually comes back down
you can adjust the iac by turning the piece in the middle. but 99% of the time you shouldn't have to.
if your idle is jumping up and down, check your o2 sensors to see if they are dirty. I bet that's what it is.

Well it still seems to want to stay high sometimes. Today I did part of a tune up, I gave it new plugs (old ones were bleh), changed the pcv valve and hose for it. Also cleaned the TB again. Changed wipers and installed new 6x9's. Plus layed some dynamat under the rear sears + wheel wells (While we had the seats out to change the rear speakers)
Anyways, its a little off topic. Its still wanting to go high
