I'm a 1996 soch neon owner which happens to have the auto tranny in it. I wanted to know how much would it cost to convert my auto neon to a manual. Is it even possible? would it be cheaper just to buy another neon that already comes with a manual tranny?

 

I'm getting ready to do the same thing myself, going to the junk yard and pulling all the components comp and all
should not be a problem as all the mounting holes ant stuff is already there.
Gonna rebuild the tranny first and change the diff. and go wiht a largerer clutch as im lookin for off line torque.
Arond here they told me 75.00 for everything so hey why not!

You could spend 20 bucks on a clymer manual and it tells you exactly how to remove the transmission. Im not so sure if it tells you how to remove the linkage and shifter, but thats just remove the old, and put in the mtx components and bolt up. It will bolt right in.

I just did this conversion myself quite recently. Couple hours and a buddy for the removing and placing of the transmission is a great benifit. Personally the hardest points were getting the tranmission onto the input shaft from the clutch. Becuase it has to be perfect alignment up and down and left to right. And the other part was putting the clutch/brake pedals in. Good hour job at least id say if you've never done it before. Otherwise, the benifits are great so far, it accelerates alot quicker than the automatic ever did

 

Im looking to do the same thing, i hate automatics.. with standard i feel like i have more control over my car, plus i can launch faster

 

Its all swap one to the other. You will need a MTX PCM though because the ATX PCM is tuned a little different and has trans sensor pickups that the MTX does not have.

I wanna know where you are getting a Trans, pedals, cables, shifter, linkages, and a PCM for $75!!! Your looking at probally more like $250-$300 for everything.

 

I am thinking of converting my 95 highline to a standerd. I have rebulit an engine in a neon before so I think I know can figure it out. What I want to know is what do i need to buy before tearing my car apart? I know I need a tranny, shifter, shifter cables, pedals, but do i need to change the colum, what about the cv shafts, and computer?
