ok so i just picked up this 96 neon highline (expresso)....everything seems ok except for the fact that the passenger side motor mount it shot so the motor clunks around in between shifts...AND my main concern....if i let the car idle for about 5 to 10 minutes...it barely starts to smoke out the exhaust....then when i rev it up holy SMOKES!! all pun intended. Its like a locomotive...but it stops after about 10-15 seconds and doesnt do it any more at all while driving...doesnt matter if its stop/go or freeway there is no smoke at all. What could be causing this. Like i said it only does it if i let the car sit and idle for about 5 minutes..then when i take off it smokes bad then all of a sudden just stops. Thanks for your help.

I can only guess what problems you're running into concerning the smoking issue.

About the side motor mount issue, I'd consider getting a replacement set of all of your motor mounts done at the same time. Howell automotive has them available online here or you can find them at NAPA, Partsource, or similar.

 

Valve cover gasket if smokes coming from the hood.

 

no smoke from hood.....all of it comes out the muffler. weird huh? thx for your help.

Yep you can get the passenger side mount that you need at napa part #602-2083 should run you right around $40 dollars....(god I love working at napa... lol I'm at work right now just looked the number up for you... lol)

 

Your probably have an exhaust leak.

 

an exhaust leak would cause it to smoke after idling for 5-10minutes and then just stop when i start driving?

It is either bad piston rings or valve seals. Either or will allow oil into the combustion chamber and cause smoke. How many miles are on the motor?

 

55k i think......it only happens at idle though.....and its white smoke...i thought burning oil was blue. Lately it hasnt been doing it much...only smokes when im at a LOOOONG red light...even then it stops after i take off and go for a few seconds.
