R/T - Road and Track
SRT - Street and Racing Technology

many of the Dodge models come in an R/T or SRT model. The neon had both flavours: the 1st Gen R/T had a few different parts that made it sportier and faster. The 2nd Gen had the SRT-4 which featured a turbo, a hood scoop, as well as some other race inspired options.

R/T doesnt really mean anything anymore, kinda like SS for GM, just a joke now. BUT the SRT group is god.

As many have already said, R/T stands for Road and Track. Rapid Transit was a term used in the muscle car era by Plymouth for their performance models and it was called the Rapid Transit System. Dodge had a similar version called the Scat Pack for their performance models. So, whomever told you it stands for Rapid Transit has confused the terms and is from that era or was misinformed as you were by that person.

Exactly right... No such thing as "Racing Type" or "Rapid Transit"... Maybe for Acura and Plymouth, but not for Dodge....
