okay heres the deal..my 97 dohc was sitting there for the past 3 yrs..finally decided to fix it...(timming belt blow so i had valve problems) fix that already. so okay im putting it back togother right when i was ready to get that baby started it didnt start..sure enough it was starter...replaced that checked battery wires, ground wires, everything.....then found a fuel pump problem.. replaced that..now when im about to start it up, a sort of back firing pop happens. could it be that my dohc isint timed right? more battery power?<--new batt..can anyone help???plz

did you try to clean all the connections up like it says above? make sure its all tight, dont just clean the battery post, clean the starter post and stuff too.

are you sure you didnt hydrolock you engine & bend a rod? did it run after you went through the water?
ive seen it too many times with an engine drinking water, bends a rod or 2 & they lock up tight

I have a neighbor with same problem different car. Sucked water into the intake & pretty sure the engine. My co-worker/mechanic said to Take out the plugs try starting the engine, it is to try to get the water to shoot out. If that works then put the plugs in & see what happens. Worse case you may have bent rods or valves.

you cant really bend valves from ingesting water, but you can bend rods easily
