Default OBD-2 Question

I have a 1998 Dodge Neon (built in Canada) and I was looking to connect my laptop to the OBD port to monitor everything. I want to know if there is anything that can go wrong with the computer in my car or anything I should be aware of. I really don't want to mess something up then I can't drive it anymore. So is there anything I should know before trying this?

Might I ask what program you are using to do this? I have been wanting to do the same thing. And not to steal your thread or anything, but is there a program out there that you can manually alter your PCM through the OBD port with your laptop?

I'm using a program from Scantool.net . Its an open source program. As for the PCM thing, I was reading another thread on here and it said that the PCM is encrypted in Mopar cars. Heres the link to that thread:

Hope that helps you out.

Awesome. By the way, I dont think you will mess anything up considering you said that things are encrypted, and that program more than likely is just to moniter things. Thanks again!

I used the scantool.net stuff for a few years (stolen about a year ago). No problems at all with the laptop of the PCM because of it.

Best of luck!

(P.S. - neons were only built in Toluca, Mexico and Belvidere, Illinois... )

Thanks, is there a cable to connect a pocket pc rather than a laptop. i know that pocket pc's don't have usb ports. When I did a carfax report (which is a waste of money) on my car, if said it was manufactured in Canada. I don't know if they are telling the truth or not.
