Default Sticky Internal Quick Fix

Anybody ever mix automatic tranny fluid with your oil to help free up some sticky internals. Some rednecks had told me that is what they do but I don't know if they're messing with me or not. From what I'm told, the ATF has a detergent in it that helps break up the sticky garbage that gets left over in your engine when you do an oil change. If anybody has done it let me or does not advise it let me know. Thanks guys.

Never heard of that and I wouldn't do it to my neon. That trick may work on an older car, but I can't see how thinning out your oil would help at all.

i have been told to put a little in the oil, run it for about 100 miles, change oil, run for 1000 miles then change oil and filter all over again...it is supposed to loosen up sticky valves and rockers....but i havent had a need to do it yet

Tell you guys what...when I get to work tomorrow morning I will take a look at the detergent package in an ATF and engine oil sample and compare the differences. I work in an oil analysis lab. I will post my findings then.

Go visit the Bob is the Oil Guy(BITOG) forum and look for an alternative such as AutoRX or something.

The numbers are in ppm and will be displayed in this order Phosphorous, Zinc, Calcium, Barium, Magnesium, Molybdenum, Antimony

Chevron 15w40 (engine oil) 1255-1573-3007-0-9-94-0
Mobil Pegasus 505 (diesel engine) 270-412-1652-0-7-2-0
Mobil Pegasus 40 (diesel engine) 304-355-1519-0-7-1-0
Mobil ATF 212-49-151-0-4-0-0
Citgo ATF Dexron 150-2-46-0-0-0-0

As you can see so far, the chevron oil has the most detergents than diesel engines or the Mobil ATF fluid. I have a bottle of Dexron/Mercon ATF that I will bring in tomorrow to get the specs on it as well as a couple of other conventional engine oils. I will also get the specs for Mobil 10w30 (what is in my car now)

Advance Autoparts has several brands of detergent enhancer. Other stores should have something similar. Transmission fluid is risky but who am to say. I once did the same trick with a quart of kerosene.

I have used this fix before. Works like a charm. Subsitute one quart of oil for trans fluid. Run for 15 minutes. Drain and repeat. Make sure to run for at least 15 minutes. No longer than 25 minutes. AND DO NOT DRIVE!!! Replace oil and filter. run for 1/2 hour and change oil and filter again. Now you are good to go. I used this process a couple times to repair sticking valve causing misfire.
Previous post was correct. Trans fluid has a detergent that eats away deposits. Good Luck!

What detergent might that be? So you are saying that engine oils don't have this detergent that eats away at deposits.

I have updated my above post and added Citgo ATF Dexron.
