Got a new alternator and the belt is still pulling hero..
Went and got a replacement alternator under warrenty. Slipped it in and everything appeared to line up nicely. Ran fine, checked it after it idoled for awhile. Still great.
Went to a friends house, and highest I probably revved it was five and the belt has jumped over 2 rows of splines again![:@]
Im ready to murder the car.[:-]
Would the belt being stretched from the old alternator cause it to still do this?
How much slack/tension seems reasonable?
Need some advice guys and girls.
Thanks

i've tightened my a/c, p/s belt 4 times now and it's starting to squeal again (no the p/s pump ain't moved). the new belts strech over their whole life, not like older ones that you just tighten once.
what do you mean by "the belt jumped"?

when the belt "jumps" it moves over a little, or pops off, the pulley...in his case it jumped over a little.....
i would get another belt and try that out....when you have the car running, keep an eye on the pulleys and make sure it doesnt wobble....for a long time whenever i would beat on my car a little it would throw the p.s. belt....after looking at the crank pulley closely, i noticed that the groove for the belt had a small dent in it...not very noticable, you could only see it if you looked carefully......so i took a pair of pliers, bent it out, and didnt do it again

I see what your saying, I'll go take a look at the pulley more closely.
I did watch it when it was spinning and it does have the slightest wobble in it. I tryed using a rubber mallet to correct it but that didn't go anywhere.
What would you suggest to move it abit?
Thanks again, Sean

i've heard on this forum of new alt's not having the correct spacing. the alt pulley is too close to the eng compaired to the rest of the pulleys. was fixed by putting washers on the blots to line up the pulleys (lock washers). if your pulley is out of round (it wobbles), get a new one at the junk yard. good luck.
