Default SRT-4 engine swap

Ok I'm new to this forum so... i hope i'm doing this right. I want a turbo on my neon so bad, so i thought it would be a good idea to swap out my 2.0 SOHC for a 2.4 H.O SRT-4 motor. Would this be a big job , saying is it really worth the hassel? I can get a used SRT-4 motor for about $1500 not including shipping. It doesn't come with an ECU but I can find one for about $100. With the motor come axels and that, and it comes with the transmission too. So anybody out there with expierience with the 1st gen neon and the SRT-4 please help me out.

It fits and will swap in, but you are looking at some work. Just get a used turbo kit. I know a guy who is selling a Chill factory Stage II kit for a SOHC for $1800! Used for about 1000 miles.

Default SRT-4 motor swap

I have a Garret T3 turbo but was told by numerous people that my bottom end won't hold up. The all said that my rods will snap the second i put boost on them. But i did read on here that the 2.0 SOHC will be fine for 7 lbs. of boost max. I think it would be better to put a SRT-4 motor and tranny in my car. the motor only has like 12,000 miles on it so its like brand new. then i wouldn't have to worry about my clutch, axles and the rest of the motor blowing up. For prolly $2000 i could have a new motor and tranny and a turbo sleeper car. what do all u think?

The stock neon can hold up to 7 lbs of boost on stock internals. The SRT-4 T850 tranny won't fit unless you are ready to start cutting into your frame and the axles don't fit on the first gen neon. You can't use a stock or aftermarket ECU that has been used on an SRT, do the fact that it has already seen sentry. So you will either have to go with a NEW stage 1 or 2 ECU or use the stock neon PCM and use a MAP clamp or mising link. You will also need 2.4 motor mounts to get the engine in the first gen and you also need the SRT wiring harness so you can splice it in with your current one.

I'm not trying to discourage you, but it will cost more than $2000 to get the engine into your first gen.

The tranny will not fit unless you cut the frame to fit it and you will need 2.4 mounts for the neon...<---not the SRT mounts.

what do you mean the tranny wont fit without cutting the frame its the first gen tranny so why wouldnt it fit in there? it wouldnt change where the tranny is just by swapping the engine would it? or are you just saying that i need to get the srt4 tranny and cut the frame for that tranny?

If you use the SRT-4 tranny then you would need to cut into the frame. No, you don't need the SRT-4 tranny though. The first gen tranny will work fine.
