Speed Sensor Q
Ok. Determined that my speedo intermittent behavior is NOT the solder flow issue (already tried that - and besides, its throwing a CEL code).
need to replace the speed sensor.
No problem, got the new 3 prong one - they want me to splice in the wires. Again, no problem.
I unbolt the old sensor, pull it up a little, and the little nylon gear WONT fit thru the hole in the tranny. PROBLEM.
Am I missing something or am I supposed to just pop off that gear and HOPE it won't drop down and disappear inside the tranny? That is what stopped me in my tracks. I guess my only recourse is to grab onto the gear fins with vice grips (set REALLY LOW) so it wont drop during the swap.

Wow. It must be .001 tolerance. I will have to make sure it is straight and lined up.
Thanks for the info - I was pretty sure I didn't want it falling down in there.
Now - for a slightly different question, but still related to tranny.
What, other than a fragged tranny gears would make it hard to shift into 4th and 5th? All the other gears are fine, just 4th and 5th.

FSM says...
HARD SHIFTING
Hard shifting may be caused by a misadjusted crossover cable. If hard shifting is accompanied by gear clash, synchronizer clutch and stop rings, or gear teeth may be worn or damaged. Misassembled synchronizer components also cause shifting problems. Incorrectly installed synchronizer sleeves, struts, or springs can cause shift problems.

RE: Speed Sensor Q
i know it sucks, but try shifting SLOW. i have the same prob with rev. if i go REAL slow it don't grind at all. might check the cables ends were they hook to your tranny. one of the ends might be a bit jacked like mine is. the cables are "self adjusting" but might want to check those too. good luck.

RE: Speed Sensor Q
Yeah, I try shifting slow/fast whatever. No help. It usually takes letting out the clutch a bit to re-spin the gears to try to re-align. The gears dont grind at all, the stick just wont push to those gears sometimes. Other times it works perfectly.
Oh well. Deciding whether or not to sell or part the car out anyhow.[&o]

'95 SOHC Sport Package - Emerald Green
120k miles (commuting miles)
5 spd
Never raced
Iceman CAI
Thermal muffler
Perfect interior (manual windows)
Got in a wreck a while back and back right quarterpanel and bumper cover screwed. Front right quarter has small (6" long) dent. Hood kinda farked up (dented, not crunched).
Insurance company totaled out the vehicle, but never filed the claim, so clear title
Just too small for my growing family and outdoor lifestyle. Looking at a jeep.
Might sell the whole thing outright if the deal is right or part it out (don't know how much it costs to have a non-rolling chassis hauled off to be dumped)
