will the neon run on 93 octane without any problems .last year my sister bought a 1995 neon and it ran good. isuggested that she try shell v power 93 octane . and i noticed a more throaty sound .more vroom vroom and it seemmed a lot quicker .but because i wasent too sure if the engine could handle that. being that it was desighed to run on 87 octane .so isaid she she switch to 89. and thats whats she has been using ever sense . imust say from the fisrt time i drove her car i was very impressed with the quickness of the car. and also the car seemed pretty reliable so much so a few months later my sister bought a 1996 for my mother .the car only had 66k .it laso ran fine for about 2 months then the head gasket went .the mechanic said that the new head gasket is a gasket that she will not ever have to replace.so 2 months ago i saw the car that i have now a 1996 neon.
i assumed that because my mother and my sister cars seemed to be pretty reliable and trouble free that i would buy one myself .well little did i know about the neon until i had this stalling problem. it was then i researced the car on the internet since some of the mechanics semmed to be stumped trying to figure out my stalling problem. so with the combination of mechanics and internet forums i was able to figure out what the problem was. i wll say this that i and my family love our neons. they look nice, they run good, and is good on gas. so my question is can the
car run on 93 .i read that if you have the mopar pcm that it will adjust the timing so that it can run 93. i.wondered would a stock sohc neon run 93 without modifiying anything.

SOHC's are rated for 87 octane and DOHC's are rated for 93 octane, because of it's advanced timing. You can use 93 on a SOHC, but it may or may not help that much.

The Mopar PCM REQUIRES 93 octane, it's not an option. The SOHC PCM isn't capable of advancing the timing to see any performance from 93 octane.

what do you think about the tornado. that is advertised to increase gas mileage as well as increase hp to up to 15% on some cars .

Anyone having a stalling problem, especially in the heat, should try cleaning out the throttle body. The 1st-gen Neons tend to deposit carbon all over the inside of the throttle body pretty fast, especially when you run crappy gas through them. Spray some throttle body cleaner in there and see if it runs better. It'll probably run a little rough while the system eats up the cleaner, and then it should be fine. I generally have to do this every three months or so, but it's not like it's a lot of trouble.

my car has 115k. is it in the too high mileage bracket to start using mobil one .i read that mobil 1 is a great oil to add to your car. and that it will help free up a little hp, and also cool the engine a little better than conventional oil .and will guard against engine wear a lot better than conventional oil. in the past whenever i would buy a car when it came time for an oil change i would just put mobil1 in it without being concerned about whether the car had high miles or not . but after reading some post saying that adding mobil 1 can cause oil leaks on a high mileage engine. has made me a little cautious .so i am just wondering is 0-70k considered low miles. and anything above that is considered high miles.

i checked my codes and im still getting 44, 43,and now 11. i had the codes cleared, but the onboard codes are still there. so i guess i have to disconnect the battery for 30 minutes or so. my main question is when the crankshaft sensor was installed is it possible that when the car was started that the computer may have for a second picked up an intermitent signal fromm the crankshaft sensor. thus producing the code 11. iam concerned because i have 115k on the engine and im not sure if the timing belt was replaced or not at 102k
which is the suggested time that it should be changed. if i was to check the timing belt what should i be looking for other than the obvious signs of wear. i read that the tensioner
can cause the belt to shread .how do you check the tensioner

On the timing belt, just look for wear. I'd change it, if your not sure if it's been replaced or not. Don't want to have to spend extra money on a head and valves if it does break on you.

how much do you think it should cost to replace . and i was so hoping that someone would say that the code 11 was to be expected after the crankshaft sensor was changed .and that all i had to do was reset the computer. if i reset the computer and the code 11 went away then it would mean that it was the sensor ?. or if it was the timing that skipped a tooth then most likly the code would return .my sister was lucky when she bought her neon .on her timing belt cover someone wrote that the belt had been chaged at11k
