that whole rant actually kinda makes sense..hahaha

but when you do the swap people do swap over the PCMs...

Correct me if I'm wrong,

but I think Eagle Talons used the same DOHC engine the Neon had, so in theory you'd have better chances of getting a DOHC computer.

so really, if your not urboing, wtf would you swap heads??
i hear people talk about it night and day, but why if your gonna lose power??

with the head and pcm (which you kinda do need...) the people who've done it have seen a gain

but i usually read that they just swap the whole motor because of the pistons

a gain like how?
if the compression drops, even with the psitons and pcm, how would there be an increase??

Thats correct theres no logical sence to swap the SOHC for the DOHC heads if anything you will break even on power evenif you use the DOHC PCM with the DOHC heads on a SOHC block due to the compression loss. Better off just using the DOHC PCM on the SOHC and actualy make easy HP gains.

DOHC heads flow much better than the SOHC head. So if you swapped heads along with DOHC pistons your compression would be about the same. The DOHC did not come with a "tuned exhaust", just a better flowing muffler. Both have 2.25" piping. Mod for mod, the DOHC will outperform the SOHC every time. You may say 0.2 of a second isn't much, but it is the difference between winning and losing. Running a DOHC PCM on a SOHC engine will cause the car to run a little rich. And in the end, the DOHC is capable of more power than the SOHC. SOHC has a little more torque in the low end, but fails in the top end, where the DOHC excels.

ok so i know im bringing up and old thread back up... but how much of a compression drop are we talking about there..
and also if swaping from SO to DO head and swapping the pistons to ur basically doing an engine swap right? to get the pistons in and out will this require taking the block out? sorry noob here... if so wouldnt the pullina DO from the jy and slapping it in my car be alot easier?

I did this swap over the summer when my timing bely popped in my 96 sohc. Picked up everything to swap dohc head onto a sohc block. Did not have the time to get the right pistons. Car still runs well today. I will have the dohc pistons in the next build, but not this time. Was in a rush to get back on he road. My neon has a iceman intake, atx tb, af/x udp, mopar dohc pcm, 03 r/t trans, ebay header, and dohc muffer. I beat a 97 modded gs-t eclipse be a fender from 10-115mph. The compression is 9.2:1 with a dohc had bolt to a block with sohc pistons. not ideal, but it works in a crunch. If using used pistons, at least get new piston rings.

Much power difference from the SOHC to DOHC head? or just good enough?
