A buddy of mine has a 1995 SOHC neon and its been missing out something fierce. It has recently had the Fuel Pump, Timing Belt, and MAP Sensor Changed. But it still keeps showing a MAP Sensor code. It will run smooth off & on, and it'll miss while it is sitting there, sometimes missing and surging to the point of dying. It is sometimes amplified by turning on the defroster(A/C Compressor kicking on). He was told that it could possibly be the intake leaking on it, does that sound like a good place to start? Or do you all think something else could be wrong? 109k miles by the way.
well if the MAP sensor is verified good and its missing, it sounds like a manifold air pressure problem. There is either too much air getting in or not enough. Id say thats a good place to start, I dont know about an actual solution though
yea i would check for vaccum leaks, just a wild idea is the brake pedal sttff? pinch the brake booster hose shut & see if it does anything, check over the plastic intake for cracks
he took it out for a about a 30 minute drive yesterday, and he said it ran smooth till he came back home and turned the defroster on. he said thats when it ran rough again. Surging/Missing out, eventually after minutes of running(after already warmed up), eventually dying due to surging/missing bad enough. It hasn't ran smooth since. We ran the codes again last night, and the only codes still showing are the MAP code. Would it run completely smooth for 30 minutes like it did with the timing off??
i dont think he did replace the intake man gasket. the service tech at the dodge dealership told him that could be it, does that sound like it is possibly the problem??
