Default Neon overheating, help!

Well i was driving down the hwy last night at about 70mph. I started to smell some anti-freeze burning and right when i smelled it smoke started coming through my ac vents. My temperature was reading fine. I pulled over and checked under the hood. My coolant was bubbling badly. I checked my exhaust (becuz i had blown a head gasket in my camaro and i had anti-freeze in my exhaust) and there was no anti-freeze or anything in it. After the negine cooled down i filled it up with the coolant i had in my car. Then i drove tot the gas station and filled it up with more. Well when i walked back tot he car after throwing away the jug there was coolant all over the ground. So i jumped in the car and drove home becuz i was like walking distance from home. Well today i went out to check on my baby and as i suspected, the driveway was covered in coolant. I checked my resovoir(sp?) and it was full. I couldnt locate where the leak was coming from so i turned the car on and let it run for about 10-15mins. I had a few small drops leak out but i think that it may be from when i missed refilling it last night. The temp is still reading fine and i cant locate a leak anywhere. Any ideas? My neighbor told me that it may be my heater core. The leak is coming from the back passenger side of the enging.

Sounds like the heater core to me.. I had that happen in my Taurus once.. driving down the road, smell maple syrup, crank the heat and car fills with smoke... That one is not fun to change either >.<... You may want to try some of the no-leak stuff... I put some in the Taurus and it fixed it up.. but if you do it.. dont go cheap on it and make sure its safe and works for heater cores! I think the one I got was almost like an aluminum sealer or something

Well from where you describe the leak, I don't see why you need any more opinions just to tell you that your heater core has developed a leak.

i could be wrong but, have you checked the hoses? seems to me if the heater core was leaking while the motor is running the antifreeze would leak all out faster than the drainpan could handle, resulting in antifreeze in the cab. if it is the heatercore you could always bypass it untill you get it fixed, pull the core and take it to a rad shop, should be cheaper thana new one, good luck.

a bad heater core leaking that much will drip from the blower motor and soak the carpet on the pass. side front also, its happened to me twice, i would definately have a look at the hoses first, if it leaks bad enough in the engine compartment, it can get up into the cowl vent where the heater pulls air in and it will go inside the car that way as steam of course
i would guess the heater core alos, but check to see if the carpet is wet, or pull it up on the pass side & look to see if the floor is soaked under it

well i checked my carpet today and it was dry. i bypassed the heater core and drove my car for an hour or so. i cant smell anything burning and the levels on the collant are fine, so i guess it is the heater core.
