pretty sure a turbo puts out more boost in the end

Edit: oh and the only way i could think a s/c would put out boost faster is because of turbo lag, but that is easily eliminated with the proper downpipe

the best part of a s/c is u dont have to wait for the boost so y wouldnt it be better the a turbo u got boost faster
there are more up sides to a turbo even though its harder on an engien, its easier to controll boostand the power gains the super dosent compair. and on a small turbo like the srt4 it can spool nicely by 2500 to3000 rpms. even one my size spools in at around 3300. if done right youll only have to spool once per race

the biggest diff between turbos and s/c is how they are driven.

as we all know turbos have 2 parts. the compressor wheel (this sucks the air in), and the turbine wheel (this turns the compressor wheel via a shaft). as exhaust flows over the turbine wheel, it spins, sucking air into the eng (think of a blowtorch on a windmill). as with most things, size matters. the bigger the compressor and turbine wheel are, the more force it takes to move. the slower it starts to spin, the later the boost comes on: turbo lag. done right a turbo eng can be made with ALMOST no turbo lag. but because the wheels are a fixed airfoil, the best that can be done is a dual or 2-stage turbo. a smaller turbo is used for lower rpm's (it spools up faster), and a bigger one is used to make big boost. all turbos are like fans you can blowair through them without turning them.

first type of supercharger (s/c): positive displacment. with every 1 turn of the s/c, it will displace or push a given amout of air into the eng. this happens when you are starting the eng (unlike a turbo). at idle, this type of s/c has the eng under boost. because the eng is under boost at a low rpm, and such an old tech (pre WWII), it was built for lower rpm's (under 6k). BUT, look at any pro dragster, what is that thing on top of the 3000hp eng? the down side is they are run off of the crankshaft, and suck ALOT of power.

2nd type is a hybrid. it uses the turbo compressor wheel driven by the crank shaft. best of both worlds. no turbo heat, or cracking exhaust manifolds. still might have some lag as they are not positive displacement but not alot. you have to route the discharge to the eng, so you can use an intercooler or blowoff or anythig you would with a turbo. BUT you still have to turn it with the crank.

in my humble opinon, anything under 3 liters that is driven on the street should go turbo. s/c's use too much power to operate for smaller eng's. happy motoring.
