RE: Upgrade/Replacement Shifter
The info you are lookingfor,
I had some parts laying around the garage.... and decided to see if it would work.
I found the Stock SRT-4 Shifter assembly and wondered if it would fit in my 1998 R/T ("The Turd") ????
------I found this out.------
You can take an SRT-4 Shift assembly and run it in a 1st Gen (95-99) Neon.
There are only two things you have to swap to make it work:
- Switch the main base. (Remove (3) 8mm bolts)
- Switch the Reverse Arms.
Therefore.... you can swap the SRT-4 Mopar Short Throw Shifter Assembly in a 95-99 Neon.
I have ordered an SRT-4 STS and an SRT-4 Shift Boot.
They will arrive at the dealership on Tuesday, and I will make the final swap.
You say... why is this a benefit?? The main reason being cost:
SRT-4 Mopar Performance Short Throw Shifter:
P4510485--------------$99.00
1995-99 Mopar Performance Short Shifter:
P5007317--------------$263.56
The same thing can happen vice versa.
A 1st Gen Shifter arm can be run in a 2nd Gen.
So.... if someone wanted to run a 95-99 ACR/ R/T Leather shift **** in their SRT-4, it can be swapped.
Why buy the more expensive shifter???
When you can buy the different shifter... swap out two parts, and save alot of money.
Plus.... those who have an extra Stock SRT-4 shifter assembly can sell it to a 1st Gen owner... and it will swap.
I will try and get pics on Tuesday of the final swap.
I am almost 99% sure the swap willl work for sure.... since I am already running the stock SRT-4 shifter assembly and **** in my R/T.

RE: Upgrade/Replacement Shifter
installed the bushings (2) last night. Like new. they were kinda tough to get them on, used some grease on them and they went on fairly well after that. Looks like the bushings under the hood are next. Looks like I just remove the pin and dis-assemble to remove the old bushings right?
