Default redline at three and a half?

okay i have this neon and it got into an accident and it runs now but it will not go above about three and a half grand, it sounds like its hitting a rev limiter and it starts kinda hard for like three seconds.... anyone have any clue? i think it might be vac but i hear no whining from hoses... im clueless? should i check into the vac lines or is there something else it could be thats easier to check?

Im with fastneon84. It sounds like a comp problem. I had a saturn that did the same thing and i had to put a new comp in it, and thats how i got my neon. Big step up in my mind.

If the map sensor is way off it wont give it the right amount of fuel and it wont run right, try a new map sensor first.
