A lil question,has any1 had this happen 2 them b4,,,I purchased a 97 neon DOHC it was sitting around since july 2006, i bought the car without hearing it run got it home started it up and it ran good,ended up the altenater was siezed up and i scrapped my alt belt,,but it ran on it's own without holding the gas,now i changed my alt and the belt now i have to hold the gas pedal for about 2-3 min b4 it idle's on its own and it didnt do that b4,what could it be,ive changed a few altenaters b4 but this never happened 2 me b4,,???

 

could it just be the cold?

 

no it ran good b4 i changed the altenater,everytime i started it up it ran perfectly fine on it's own without my help,,now that i changed my alt' its starting to act up,,it will stay running when hot not cold,,,its not normal,,and im on my 4th neon and here where i live it get's really cold,and this never happen to me b4??

 

hmmm. stupid question and i doupt it could be it but could the alt. belt be 2 tight? and back to the cold question, both our Neons now with the cold (sub zero to like 20 or so) whenever we start them it doesn't like to idle without some help. how old is your Neon?

 

i know 4 a fact it not the cold cause it started doing that right after i changed the altenater and belt,,maybe the belt is to tight ide have to check it 2morrow,but i doubt it would cause it to not idle on its own when cold or could it????

 

is it a new alt or rebuilt?

 

its a altenater i had laying around from a previous neon that i scrapped,im guessing its rebuilt?

 

i had my alt seize up on me i just replaced and it was fine

 

me to ive change plenty of altenaters on neon's and never had this problem,,,or just maybe its something else that happen to screw up at the same time i changed my altenater???

 

Could be a bad alternator. Did you have it tested?
