Don't junk it. Get a used tranny for $200 and swap it in or even better, do the MTX swap.

update : the neon is back..1,200 dollar later and a used transmission stuck in...
strange to say but i actually missed this damn car..lol

Does your automatic transmissions seem to have a large jump in ratios betweenfirst and second gears? Ever since I had mine when yourslowely accelerating will clunk and lurch into second gear but when stepping on it to pull into traffic it is perfecly smooth.

 

well, i had a 30 day gurantee on my trans. when the mechanic did it..
first one he did lasted about 3 days and it would whine real loud and was from a 95 (my car is a 99) 2nd one he put in was from a 99 and it was like silent..never an issue just a delay between 2nd and 3rd gears (rpm would go upto 4 or 5 before it would shift into 3rd) til one day it just flat out kept cuttin out of gear at stops...
anyhow, make it a short story i`m on my last trans. and its from a 97... shifts smooth all the time, and its super quiet.. if that helps u any knightrider
though it does shift alittle rougher is i really step on the gas hard from a stop..
neons all seem to have an attitude each all their own..lol
