RE: 98 Neon sunroof
This is what happened to my sunroof and its took only 2 hours to fix, no money wasted. My sunroof wouldn't open and the humming sound was present. I took off the glass to find one side was missing a cable. I took off the headliner to find my cable was disconnected and all I did was reconnect it. And its fixed. If your cables move with ease it shouldnt be the motor.

That's why I asked if he was sure it is the motor, it's rare that the motor goes bad, Most likely causes are a broken/warped cable guide block on the motor mount or a broken cable retainer on the drivers side rail. All the parts are available from the dealer, cables are sold as a set and cost around $50. Rails are around $120 each, and the guide block retrofit kit is about $30. The motor was about $250 last time I checked. If you need part #'s, let me know.

it's rare that the motor goes bad,
the 97-99 neons that came with a factory power sunroof have a tendancy to go bad.....the main gear inside the motor is plastic and will eventually ware the teeth down if used enough
