The "ratcheting" sound is most likely the aluminum cable guide by the motor. They had a tendency to warp. You can get a replacement from a dealer for around $24. It mounts by the motor at the end of the cable tubes and keeps the cables tight against the motor gear. As for the broken cable clip, that is also common there is a quick inexpensive fix for it. I will have to look for the thread about it later this evening.
