Default Hello all.

Hi guys (& gals) Im new to the forum and just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself and explain my situation. Im 30 years old and although i grew up around a garage and a bunch of 'car guys' im pretty new to working on anything automotive. With that being said I am fairly confident with any tool in my hand (I have a construction/equip operator background) and look forward to learning as much as possible from this site.

What brings me to the dodge forum is that i just fell into a '91 ram150. It has been in my wifes family for about six or seven years and had been basically left to rot until we decided to take it on as a project vehicle. My brother in law bought it with the same thing in mind and when he didnt get around to it he basically dumped it on my father and laws lawn which is where it has sat for the past couple years.

So far i know very little about the truck other than its a 91, 4x4, auto, with a 318. As far as condition i would classify the body as in fair-good shape with a little rust here and there but nothing major, the paint is faded from red to a hot pink (haha), the interior is pretty rough especially the dash, and it currently sits on 2 flat tires. The good thing is that it was running a few months back and should start up with a fresh battery.

Our vision for the truck is somewhere better than a beater but way less than show truck, basically something rugged enough to ride through the mountains and snow without having to worry about breaking down.

My plan for now (next month most likely) is to put some used tires on it to at least get it to my house. I'll prob work on the body and interior some during the winter and start working on a lift and doing some motor work in the spring.

My eventual plan is to have a 3-4" lift with 33 or 35's. I want to go with either a flat black or orange (maybe a mix of the two) for paint. Interior wise i plan on picking up a split bench from a newer ram, painting all the metal and either replacing the dash (which is the worst part of the interior) or going with a real nice looking dash mat. I know the old 318 has prob seen its better days so eventually i'd like to find either a better 318 or possibly go all out and add a 360.

Anyway i just wanted to introduce myself as im sure i will be asking a bunch of questions from you guys in the next year or so.

Welcome. There is so much collective knowledge on this forum. I have learned so much from here.

The red does look pretty wacky after it's faded. It is pretty tough to find aftermarket support for non-OEM styling for our trucks from my experience.

I've got a similar setup as you w/ a 1991 Dodge W150 w/ the 318. Mine has the NP435 4 speed though. I am running it with 35's, 4inch lift and 4.56 gearing.

Best of luck to you. Keep us posted.

Like i said i wont be doing anything with it for at least a couple weeks but I will put some pictures up in the next couple days. I would love to see some pics or your (or anyone else's) truck.

Im trying to decide if i want to just do a basic sanding of the outside and hit it with a bunch of 'rattle cans' or go full on and primer, sand, and spray with an actual sprayer. I know typically it would look a lot better using the sprayer, but i've never used one so i dont want to put all the work in to get basically the same results. I guess decisions like that are whats fun about a project.

When I saw from red to pink for a paint job, I knew you must have the same color I had. I rattle canned mine with Banner Red which is very close and it came out much better than it was. Should have cleared it also to protect it. Throw some pics up when you get a chance.

There she is ^^^^ in all her glory. haha

Anyone have any suggestions on a good aggressive AT or MT tire at a decent price? I was originally going to get a set of used tires just to get it moved but i think im going to go ahead and pick up a new set now. I was thinking about getting a set of buckshots but when i went to the tire place the guy showed me a set of nexens that arent quite as aggressive as i would like but had a pretty decent price point @ $120 a tire mounted balanced etc.

you weren't kidding, it is very pink! Poor girl needs to put her dress back on. If money is an issue, go rattle-can for now.

Welcome to the forums. I like my treadwright brand retreads, but I'll not be responsible if they explode on you!
