1989 Dodge D250 cumming charging issue"s
Hello need a bit of good help please . My 1989 Dodge D250 Cumming Diesel . This truck had sit for 7 years tell about 2 months ago . Got her running great but after running a week the alternator went out so i replaced it & it was good for about a week & it went out again so i took it back to to Autozone they replaced it . It lasted about 2 weeks so i got to asking & found out the the ones they were selling me were not 120 AMP .And they didnt have a 120 AMP .So bought 1 at Napa 120 AMP & replaced fire wall Voltage regulator & a new Battery . It was charging 12.8 volts witch was a little low .Ran good for 3 weeks then started smelling acid from Battery and the battery was Hot & soft on it side:s .So i replaced the battery and it again was charging at 12.8 volts . Ran for like 2 weeks they i left my head lights on by mistake and had dead battery i jump started it drove 2 blocks checked the volts while it was running only had 7.8 volts the Alternator not charging again or the regulator not working ? I am at a lose her any Ideal"s please my EARS are OPEN .Thank you for help .
I noticed when i bought this truck like 3 months ago . That the NEG side of the Battery used to have 2 factory wires coming off the neg post and someone cut 1 off and only has the biggest one going to ground on the motor .Not sure where the other one went too its no longer there just the stub they left on the battery .Wounder if that got anything to do with the issue ?Thanks
I am not sure i just replaced it 3 wks ago but can i check it with volt meter maybe continuity when i remove it or unplug it ? I have heard they go out alot .Thank u

I have a update on my 1989 dodge D250 cumming . I found the AC wire plug when it is plugged into the AC compressor that the voltage Regulator burns out or goes bad about every 2 weeks . I not sure why yet but the AC wire that goes to the Ac compressor is threaded between the top of compressor & the bracket holding the compressor is so tight i can not move that wire . Now this dodge only has 65000 miles on it so i would think it came from the factory that way . So i unplugged the AC plug & now for 4 months it charges good . The Battery has not got Hot & the firewall voltage regulator has not quit or burned out . I hope this helps others that have or had voltage regulator issue . When i have time i going to loosen the AC and get that pinched wire out and look at closer . I will update everyone .Happy driver now .
