bangs into drive and reverse
Hello all
I am new to the dodge world and just picked up a 1986 D150 with a 318 and auto trans. When put it into reverse and drive it shifts real hard,
is this normal? any help would be appriciated
let me know
thanks

Worn spider gears will make the truck act like it has a posi. Extra backlash between the ring and pinion will cause a clunk in extreme circumstances. With your driveshaft disconnected and both rear wheels on the ground you should have a 1/4 of play in the axle yoke at most. If you are at 1/2 turn or more your rear end probably won't last a lot longer. Also make sure your u-joints aren't loose. Any play at all and they are bad. And, as previously said, an idle that is too high can cause a clunk too.
