Before I buy an exhaust system for my D150 should I just try out the open headers and see how they sound? Any links on how to do this?

From readingt he above articles, it really doesn't seem like a good idea at all to just run open headers. You will likely LOSE torque. Go to summit, get a pair of summit headers ($99) a summit X pipe, Summit Universal X-Pipe Kits (84.95) and some mufflers. Thats what I am doing.

Jegs has headers a few dollars more but they are thicker tube and flanges, definately a better choice for daily street use, last longer and less tingy sound.
Add the flotech x pipe,I am going with the ones with the cutouts, good price.

is it possible for the diameter of the exaust pipes to be to big? (and i mean starting fromt he end of the manifold, since you can only buy them so big from there)

i was just thinkin it may be a fun summer project to bend up my own...

they would be duals of course. what happens sound wise if you dont connect them at all?

and lastly, what do you guys think would happen if you set them up so that the "X" happens at the muffler...

kinda like this

ENGINE
| |
||--------------these are exuast pipes coming from engine/manifold
\ /
\/
[ ] ----------------both meet here at muffler where a Y shaped pipe makes two into one
[ ]
/ \
/ \ -----------------and seperate again here

Back of Truck

now would the muffler be too restrictive to act like an X pipe and allow scavenging? what if i buy agiantmuffler- do they rate the airflow of mufflers so ic an buy one double the stock?

i dunno let me have your thoughts on this
