I am new here so I thought I would say hi. I own a 1985 dodge d 350 crew cab dually with the prospector package. I found this truck a few years back with only 85000 miles one it in all original condition without engine or transmission. Basicaly what I am looking to do with the truck is to do a full resto and cummins conversion. the body is completly rust free with no vatque crack any where even on the doors which is typical. The ony dent if from where a drunk neighbor back into the rear driverside door. I hope to post picks of her and get any suggestions on furture upgrades to this trully awesome truck

ooohhhhh we dont have a dually here yet to my knowledge. you're probably lucky there is no guts since you are doing the conversion. you can use the heavier of the A727 transmissions (now called the 37RH, i think). The five speed should work too.

Actually it's a 47RH, up to '96, when it became the 47RE. Difference is in shift control, H for hydraulic, E for electronic. http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/transmission/4xrh.htm Newer than '03 will be a 48RE.
Fairly easy conversion, Dodge has most of the parts, you can make the others.
Welcome to the site. I'm doing a 4cyl Cummins into my '81 D150.

I was planning on forgoing the the 47re for a beefier Allison 6spd. I hope i did not mislead their is curently a engine in it that I have run the last two years since I bouth the truck. but when I moved back to Texas from Colorado I cooked it well a 318 was never meant to tow 17000 lbs. Two years ago when we through the 318 in it to get it on the road we took the time to prep everything under the hood for a future conversion. I will try and get some picks.

I hope this works but I tried to attach a pic of my toy. Yes the paint is original. The outside duals are off due to the fact we had to trailer it about 130 miles after the engine went.

Congrats, nice truck.
Why the Allison? It can be done, but is rather expensive. You need a stand alone computer to control it that costs around $1600
The 48RE is a very strong trans, and is what the over 1000hp Duramax pullers are using, because the Ally can't take it.
In other words a stock 48RE with a good torque converter and valve body is very strong and reliable, and an inexpensive and easy swap.
