Magneto? The early 1970's since i fooled with one. Points, I guess in the mid 80's maybe.
Still have my Snap-on timing light.LOL I have all the hand tools still except the British Whitworth ones that I sold years ago. No distributor machine any more though.
Damn, I'm getting old!

Lugnuts, you sweet, sweet man!!!! You know your motors. I took the distributor off, took the whole thing apart to get to the mechanical advance as described. At first glance it looked like everything was correct. With closer inspection i saw that the previous owner had replaced one of the springs with one that was about 3 times as thick in the coils of it, and you could barley move the weight due to the spring being so much thicker, and stronger. It also was too long, and it was very obvious that it wasnt correct. I am picking up a new dis. and vacum assembly tomorrow. Hopefuly this will solve the problem. Thanks for your help.

i need help too
my truck is a 1988 w100 4x4 and when i crank it, it revs up fine but as soon as it idles down, it hesitate to throttle response and to me sounds like a tractor like as if it was only running on half it cylinders. When you put it in drive it will hardly even go with the throttle all the way to the floor. I have put new plugs, wires, rotor cap and button, aswell as the little thing under the rotor button also, and also a new fuel filter and EGR valve and it still runs like crap. Would apreciate and help I can get
