ok, well just got done putting all new brake lines, and new fuel line on, and i told my mechanic to drop the oil pan and clean the pick-up screen and put fresh oil in it. well i went to pick it up helped him fill it up with oil then we tried to start it to go for a test drive of the brakes and what not, but right when it started there was this awful knocking noise, so i shut it off immediately. it had no noise before i brought it in the shop, could it be that he put the oil pick-up on wrong? thanks a lot for any input

 

Have your mechanic inventory his tools to see if he is missing anythig. Sounds like a screw driver or a socket in the pan.

 

could that really make a knocking noise if a tool got left in there, i didnt think that any moving parts of the engine go that low into the pan, thats why i thought that some kind of moving part of the engine is hitting the pick-up tubing arm thing? is that a possibility at all? im trying to thinnk posotive that its not something major inside the engine because it started perfect with no engine noise at all not even lifter knocking when it went in the shop thats why i think/hope this is nothing major??? thanks for any replys

 

Drop the pan and check to be safe.

 

Make your mechanic fix it if the noise is coming from the bottom of the motor. I'd raise hell with him, if it wasn't knocking when you took it in.

[Rant} Hard to find a good shop. I took my Ferd company pickup to Sewell Ford to get the A/C controls replaced. They got that right, but mashed the wires to my phone,and the phone was loose, and the radio was dead,no clock no nothing. Only took 'em 2 days to screw up more than they fixed. I fixed their screw ups myself rather than wait another 2-3 days. Did have a little talk with the service manager though.

 

maybe the pickup was not on there all the way, because i have heard some are fitted and some are bolted, im not sure if the 318 is fitted or bolted because i didnt take the pan off but im really hoping its fitted and just fell off and that it is nothing major

 

Thinking back, I thought my pickup was threaded and screwed on. I'm not overly sure if the tube could be out of wack enough to hit the crank, Its possible. But I would not figure that the tube would cause just a knocking. It could be, don't get me wrong there, I just think if the tube did get hit, after the first hit it would get knocked out of the way and then be little more then a tick, or if it got caught it would be a far worse sound. But I certainly agree with Lugs, if it wasn't knocking when you took it in, make him yank it back apart and see what he muffed up.

 

Sounds about like when we had a thermoking put on one of our trucks. It was one of the units that ran dirrectly off the vehicle motor, well when Thermoking installed it, they ran the heater hoses right next to the exhaust manifold. Imagine what happened 50 miles down the road.

 

fixed nothing major, he said he took the pan off and put it back on, idk how that could fix it but it works so im happy, thankks everyone for all the input!

 

If anything, high octane gas will help reduce engine knocking in most carsIf you have an older car or a high performance car, you may need a higher octane gasoline to help prevent engine knocking and improve engine performance. Be sure to use original dodge performance parts
