HP in a 318?
Well the Magnum 318s from 1991 to 1996 produce 230hp apparently. Its probably less for your 2v engine. But I haven't come across any compression ratios either. A lot of the stuff that came up was aftermarket hp stuff from adding performance parts etc. BUT, my Chiltons says (O I love actually having the literature!). This is terrible '79 is 140 @ 4000 w/ 245Tq @ 1600 ~ '80 -'81 is 120 @ 3600 w/ 245Tq @ 1600 ~ '82 - '84 120 @ 3600 w/ 245Tq @ 1600 ~ '85 - '86 104 @ 3600 w/ 140Tq @ 3600. For compression 1979 has 8.6:1 ~ "80 -"84 is 8.5:1 ~ '85 - '86 is 9.0:1.
people wonder why the 318 lasts so long? because its lazy.
no doubt its a great engine, and i can go if you wanna do the work to wake it up.
but nevertheless VERY lazy. ricers with four bangers get more power and mileage.

Between vans, trucks & traildusters/ramchargers there is NO difference according to Chiltons. Unless you have a 4v engine. The 4v engines have more hp , but, its not a big difference from the 2v engine models for the '80s.
How do I tell if I have a 2v or 4v?

Ford had that in 1978 I think it was. It was a two barrel but the venturi were variable like a motorcycle or SU carbs on English cars. The Ford version was complicated as hell.
Yup. The Ford VV sucked.
