Help.. ABS and Brake lights on in '93 D350
New to the site, lots of info here. I already did a search for the ABS light, and it looks like I might have a speed sensor and/or ABS sensor problem.
My 120k mile '93 D350 diesel has had an intermittant speedometer/odometer problem for about a year. Occasionally the speed just does not work. After driving about 10-15 minutes it will start working again. Yesterday my ABS and Brake lights came on on the freeway. Brakes feel normal. Stopped and looked everything over, disconnected the battery to reset the computer, then hit the road again. Lights stayed off for about 5 minutes then came back on again.
Where do I plug in to check codes, and where is the ABS module located? Is the '93 system rear ABS only?

OK on my 86 when the speedo wasn't working properly it was because the speedo cable going into the side of the tranny had rattled loose and I needed to screw it back in. I'm not sure where your speed sensor is, on my mustang (91) it's between the speedo cable and the tranny. I'd suggest looking for loose connections there. I'm fairly certain that your speedo is mechanical, so you might want to unhook the cable at the tranny and inspect for damage there.
No, my speedo is electric, and has the signal genarator right where the cable would normally go into the trans. But that is a minor issue, at worst keeps a few miles off the clock...
My real concern is the ABS/Brake lights. Local Dodge dealer wants $89 for the rear axle speed sensor[:@]. I told them to take a flying leap. I'll shop around now that I'm back home and find a better price. Between fuel and everything else, I may not crack the 120K barrier this year. I'm at 119,800 right now. At $2.70+ gallon for Diesel here in the north west I may have to park the truck and ride the bike until the prices come back down, if they ever do.

my ABS indicator came on the dash panel and besides the speed sensor failing, what are the chances of the conventional brake system having a problem because the feeling in the brake pedal is way to soft. i goes to the floor easily with not so much force applied to it.

Well I do know you would plug in under the dash underneath the driver side in a 1999 1500. hopefully this information helps you. but with mine I connected thesnap-on diagnosis machine and I was fortunate enough to recieve all information regarding my truck. Check your service manual for location of parts and components; although my ABS module, is located in front of the passenger rear tire. I to have rear ABS only too.
I have a '91 D350 4x4 flatbed dually. I have replace the master cylinder, brake booster, all calipers, all pads & shoes, turned rotors and drums, and my brake lights are still on. ABS and brake lights are on constantly. Brakes always feel like they are dragging. Front pads lasted maybe 10,000 miles. Speedo works, odometer doesn't. Any ideas how to fix any of these problems???
