Default 1989 Ram 100 Stalling

Hello everbody! I've got a 1989 Ram 100 with a 318 that has a problem with stalling out whenever I'm slowing down, bout to stop. It runs fine while idling, and will always start right back up. I've replaced the EGR solenoid, checked the EGR valve itself, had the 02 and MAP sensors replaced, replaced the fuel filter and checked the air filter. The problem is intermittent and have just had no luck diagnosing the problem. Does anybody have an idea of what else I should be checking?

I have the same problem with my 89' w100 also has a 318. Have you checked the TPS sensor? Fuel pump?? Im getting ready to do a swap out for a 360, bolt on a carb and be done with it.

My first thought was EGR as this is its classic symptom. I have made a small plate to temporarily remove and cap off the EGR to completely remove all suspicion of this system. Since you ruled the EGR out try looking at the operation of the idle speed motor. It is very hard to diagnose this control and it can have intermittent problems. It is also a very expensive control so I don't recommend its replacement unless you are sure it is the fault.

I had the same problem. Drove me crazy cause carb was new. Turned out the float was screwed up in shipping and was set to high. When I braked gas was spilling over and flooding motor. Maybe your float is sticking since its intermittent?

Likely either the idle speed controller, or the torque converter isn't unlocking. Feel like it's lugging down?

Thanks everybody, for your help. Took another look, and it turned out to be the vacuum hose leading up to the filter before the EGR was nearly solid clogged. A couple of bucks for a new hose, clean filter, and the problem is gone.

BTW, do you have injectors or a carb?
