Swapping slant 6 for 318 any pointers?
Howdy all
Yep I'm new, I have a 1987 D-150 with a slant 6 that runs horrid! Rebuilt the carb with no noticeable difference can't use a timing light due to corrosion making the marks unreadable, so I set it by ear - lots of times!
I'm done messing with this thing. My truck is in pretty darn nice shape for a 22 year old Michigan truck and I've decided it's time to breath some new life into it.
I'm pulling a Jasper engines rebuilt 318 out of an 85 Fifth Ave whose trans is shot. I've only ever helped on one other transplant before though my dad has done a few back in the day I/we're looking for info. What are the things we need to be mindful of?
Are there any tricky changes that have to be made to drop this motor in? What trans should I be looking for, for pulling and hauling loads suited to a half ton truck? Anything outside of the obvious I need to be aware of? Any advice will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Yep, thats for sure! lol
As I'm looking at them, (the slant ones) and where they sit I am guessing if I pull the ones from the Chrysler It should be a no brainer for adding the mounts. That is under the assumption that since this truck frame was made to have everything from the slant to the 360 it shouldn't take much to go from one to the other. In this context just a mount shuffle. Is this a safe assumption?
