Default ECU check

youve all heard my whining over the last months. My truck runs like a bag and i dont know why. After checking some last ditch stuff (TPS, some relays) and finding no problems, i fired the truck back up. Obviously the Check Engine light comes up since i had disconnected stuff and run it. But the last code is "internal ECU fault" (53). I drive around the block and the truck feels the same as usual. So i pull and re-pull the codes just to be sure.

Do you think my ECU has been the source of my issues all along or that it just threw that code b/c i had been messing around? can i test the ECU to find out?

I want to hear from all the people who have our trucks (that are still stock) that have true tire burners. I don't expect an onslaught.

Its interesting you've said that. Ive wondered the same thing for the past 2 years messing with my hopeless ram. Same problem you have, mine also wont drive right. I will floor the pedal and it will stall etc. Good thing I dont ever have to mess with all this junk and frustration anymore . 2nd gen. dodges are way better.

SEAL i know these trucks can feel gutless but mine bogs down so badly that it stops, or stalls, or something. im not sure what its doing - it sounds like a misfire or a backfire or something, but for a second the engine just stops. thats just the surface of what it does that isnt normal

If nothing has changed the code is probably from what you did. Are your injectors firing properly? Is the timing right? A stumble on acceleration is a common symptom for so many different problems. You can take voltage readings on the ECU but to really check it out takes a computerized device that the remanufacture companies use. The ECU's do develop problems but most are replaced when they are not really the fault. Good luck.

"most are replaced when they are not really the fault"
agreed, which is why i was hoping to check it. and they arent cheap either. ill check the injectors but since its only sometimes i was thinking it wasnt them. ill double check the timing
