mythbusters proved that having the air on makes no differance on gas mileage or power while driving

6mpg around town!

JUST got the driveshaft/axle shim situation squared away though, and took it on the interstate for the first time in 9+ years on Tuesday. I'll check the mileage again here soon, and see if it's improving!

Gassed back up at 100 miles on the trip odometer - 36 of that had been on the interstate. Took ten gallons exactly, so I'm up to 10mpg with some interstate driving -

Default 1993 w150

I just made a 90 mile round trip, and I got just shy of 14mpg. 1993 W150 318 magnum, NV4500, stock gears, 33-12.50-15s. Only mods...exahust, and K&N air filter. 270,000 miles on the clock.

Since it's a pickup, my dad always told me to drop the tailgate when I'm going to drive for a bit, cuz that's s'pose to help with the gas mileage.
The post 80 /6's were handicapped with the hydraulic lifters. On earlier versions you could tighten the valve clearance a bit (0.008" In, 0.10" Ex instead of stock 0.012" In, 0.20"Ex) and the engine gained quite a bit of torque at cruise rpm which helped economy (35+ mpg in a 64 Valiant).

My 80 D-150, with 225, wide ratio 4 speed and 3.55 axle, radial tires, got 21 highway and 17 around town but here in my part of CO you can remove the cat (it was plugged anyway) and other gas wasting emissions "stuff", tweek the vacuum timing for a bit more mid range advance (move up one grade in fuel, btw) and get a tonneau cover or shell (either is better than an open bed but my numbers are with an open bed).

Hope this helps!

Budd
