Angry Hood Ornament - STOLEN.... AGAIN!

I think the RAM head hood ornaments must be the coolest ones out there, but that does't entitle the ignorant bastards to rip them off my baby. The nerve of some ppl bugs me. Im sure there are a lot of ppl out there with the same problem. I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to make them a little more theft resistant. I was thinking about insulating the base, and hooking it up to the battery through an A/C inverter, but then I figured I would have a law suit on my hands the next time someone walks past, and pets my ram. lol... Any ideas or suggestions would be great, cause the old fashioned spring and wire has failed me twice now. Thanks... JAcob

Rig a switch to a hidden paintball gun in grill.Non-lethal.You will know who it was then.Another option would be,to spray them with something smelly.

Yes, the ram head is the coolest ornament out there, second only to the... wait, nope... they're the coolest. It's easy to rip them off, and it's usually done by kids/teens, and can be done while riding by the vehical on a bicycle. I never personally did this, though I had some friends who liked troll the hospital for doctors' cars and rip off the ornaments from their mercedies and BMWs and such. They said they were usually 7 or 8 cars away by the time the alarm made anyone turn around to look.

WIth that said, catching the people might not be easy...
Here's one thought though: rig a push/off, release/on momentary contact switch under the onrament, and have it sound an alarm when the ornament is gone. You can find one of these switches in most any computer with a case-open warning system. Have the hot wire connected to the battery, and the switched wire to a high decible, high pitched speaker. It won't stop em from taking it, but theres a better chance someone will stop them and you'll get your ornament back without having to buy a new one

Rig a switch to it that activates a trail camera inside the truck. It won't stop the theft but at least you can show the cops who did it.

Know of a guy down the street from me that has a Ramcharger that rig the Ram to the battery. Don't know if it actually worked, but I like the thought. Of course, try explaining to the cops why there's a guy lying in front of your truck with his hand on your hood ornament passed out.

Dunno how that would work... the hood ornament is plastic with chrome plating. Can't imagine it would conduct all that well.
