Question 92 ram W150 keeps shuting off

among other problems this is the most important right now. It's very random, it will be fine for any where from 5 min to 5 days then it will just shut down and won't start. my wife has been the one driving it when it happens and by the time i get off work its fine. its got 145000 mi on a 318. any ideas?

it might be a wise idea to check your sparkpugs, cap and rotor. you can reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for like 5 minutes. have you ever change the fuel filter. you are supose to change them every 30,000 miles. if it clogs it could cause you truck to stall and not fire up instantly.

i don't think it would be the hall effect pickup because if it was his truck would probably have a miss to it.

Hi,

GM's and Fords had issues with there pickups and TFI/control modules usually after the vehicle was driven for a while. They would shut down for no reason, then start back up a few hours later and run fine. Its a pretty big problem on the EEC 4 systems for Ford.

Your going to have to drive the vehicle and wait for it to die. Then straight away check for spark and see whats going on. If you have spark, you maybe have a fuel delivery problem.

Hopefully this helps.

Have you checked the oil levels and consistancy?
What about coolant levels?

When it quits running, does it just die like the key was turned off, or does it give some kind of performance immediatly before?
